The Regeneration Project: Restoring Ghana’s Degraded Lands for a Sustainable Future.

The Regeneration Project is a bold environmental initiative led by Dream Shapers Foundation in partnership with Ohakk 2 Consults Limited, focused on reclaiming and restoring lands across Ghana that have been degraded by illegal mining (galamsey), deforestation, and unsustainable farming practices. With an urgent call to action, the project seeks to reverse environmental damage, promote biodiversity, and empower local communities through sustainable land use.

Our mission is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 1 (No Poverty). Through a mix of scientific land assessment, soil rehabilitation, tree planting, and agroforestry training, we are transforming barren and unproductive land into thriving ecosystems.

The project engages local communities as central partners—training them in green jobs, providing alternative livelihoods, and instilling a deep sense of environmental stewardship. Our approach ensures that each reclaimed site becomes a source of income, food security, and environmental resilience for generations to come.

We combine innovation with tradition by using native plant species, organic methods, and modern monitoring tools including drone and satellite imagery to track progress. With a clear project model and sustainability plan, the Regeneration Project is built to be scaled and replicated in other parts of Ghana and beyond.

Join us as we plant hope, restore nature, and shape a greener tomorrow. For partnership, donations, or volunteering opportunities, contact us at regeneration@dsfafrica.org or follow our journey on dsf on social media platforms.

Our Recycling Project: Turning Waste into Hope

At Dream Shapers Foundation, we believe that sustainable communities begin with clean environments and empowered people. Our Oteraso Integrated Waste Recycling and Sanitation Project is one of our flagship initiatives aimed at tackling plastic pollution, improving public health, and creating green jobs through innovative recycling solutions.

What We Do

In partnership with local authorities, environmental experts, and community groups, we’ve developed a grassroots-driven recycling model in Oteraso, Akuapem North District. The project involves:

  • Waste segregation at source using color-coded bags for plastic and organic waste.
  • Community waste collection centers where waste is sorted, weighed, and recorded.
  • Processing plastic waste into reusable materials like plastic pebbles and Residual Fuel Oil (RFO) — a clean energy source used by local industries.
  • Training and employment of youth and women in waste collection, sorting, and recycling operations.
  • Reclaiming degraded land caused by poor waste management and illegal dumping.

Why It Matters

In Ghana, plastic pollution remains one of the biggest environmental threats. Poor waste disposal clogs gutters, pollutes water bodies, and fuels disease outbreaks. Our project directly addresses these issues while:

  • Promoting environmental cleanliness and public health.
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by preventing open burning and dumping.
  • Providing an affordable fuel alternative (RFO) for local hotels, businesses, and institutions.
  • Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDGs 3, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13.

Our Impact

  • Reached over 500 households with source-segregation education.
  • Created over 50 direct jobs in collection and processing.
  • Diverted tons of plastic waste from landfills and drains.
  • Partnered with local industries for clean fuel supply.

What’s Next

Our vision is to replicate this model across other communities in Ghana, empowering more people and protecting more environments. With your support, we can scale up our impact and bring sustainable change where it’s needed most.
